OpenAI bridge round does not reprice the SWE seat
Same software-engineer title. OpenAI is shopping a $30 billion bridge after delaying the listing. Anthropic is still the public path. The ledger gap is $62k.
OpenAI typical $653,000 against $591,000 at Anthropic.
SWE typical
OpenAI typical sits ~1.10× Anthropic
Same title. OpenAI SWE clears $653k typical. Anthropic SWE clears $591k. Both books are marked hot.
How to plan it
Sit the bridge round as paper, not a new band
A software engineer planning 2027 should treat the OpenAI bridge round and the Anthropic listing path as two paper books, not one new band. Bloomberg reported on 29 September that OpenAI is seeking at least $30 billion at about $1.4 trillion after pushing the IPO. Reuters reviewed Anthropic's prospectus on 28 September; the Claude maker is still the public path. Neither print moves the seat. OpenAI software engineer prints $653k typical on the ledger with a $270k base. Anthropic prints $591k typical with a $250k base. The ChatGPT book leads the IC pair by about $62k. The Claude book leads the next seat: staff prints $1.25M typical against $1.16M at OpenAI, on a thinner base. If you can hold paper and want the higher IC typical while the round is still private, sit OpenAI first. If you want the listing path and the staff mark, sit Anthropic — but name the mix. Do not treat a $30 billion headline and a $653k year as the same number. The raise is capital. The seat is the book.
