A phone in a box
Rabbit sold an orange $199 pocket computer at CES 2024. The pitch was a large action model that used your apps for you. Marques called the review barely reviewable. Mishaal Rahman put the interface on a Pixel 6a the same week. The company is still a name in 2026. The device thesis ended on the review desk.

What broke
01 · Product
Every demo was a thing the phone already did. Pizza, Uber, a picture of a taco that was not a taco. The Verge: a worse and less functional version of the smartphone. Marques: the pinnacle of shipping unfinished to win a race, then charging full price.
The phone kept the job.
02 · The box
Android Authority: the entire interface is an Android app. Rahman ran it on a Pixel 6a. Lyu’s rebuttal — not an app, bespoke AOSP, cloud LAM — conceded the stack. A custom launcher on a MediaTek board is not a new computer. It is a second device that needs the first for the accounts it drives.
The OS was a skin. The work was an APK.
03 · The cloud
Same bet as the pin, cheaper plastic. Agents that live on someone else’s server. When the review week landed, Rabbit pushed an OTA to lock third-party clients. The device still needed Rabbit’s endpoints. Humane later bricked. Rabbit did not. The thesis still died: nobody needed a $199 satellite to a phone they already paid for.
Humane lost the server. Rabbit lost the argument.
