How to plan it
Sit the shop loop before the next agent lab
A mid IC who can ship systems and still read a signal should take the Hudson River / Jane Street / Jump SWE loop before another Cognition or Thinking Machines seat. The shop compounds cash you can spend. The agent lab compounds optionality you may never realize. If you need a floor in two years, the desk is the plan. If you can carry the mark and want the 2026 agent story on the resume, take the lab — but name the tradeoff. Do not treat the two offers as interchangeable career moves.
